The least expensive USB3 drive I've seen is around $200 for 1TB. T-Bolt is capable of daisy chaining 6 devices on one port, USB not so. I don't think you'll find a T-bolt drive for your price point. I was able to copy a few folders at a time to another drive, cycle power and do it again to get everything off of it without losing anything. Drive and CPU meters very low like in the 10-20% range while tracking at 44.1 or 88.2. I have a (2007) 500gb lacie D2 that has had no problem streaming 16 at once into a 2007 MBP 2.4 duo w/4gb ram.
I use 2 ext drives daisy chained on a FW800 port I use to stream audio to for recording. I haven't purchased any new ext HD's in a while but here's my thought.
